Ark City Police used a Taser early Monday morning to apprehend a 38-year-old local man they said was accused of attacking his own family.
Timothy Lee Petterson was arrested on two counts each of aggravated assault, battery-domestic violence, criminal restraint and criminal threat, as well as one count each of disorderly conduct and interference with law enforcement. His bond was set at $31,000 and remained in jail Monday afternoon.
Around 1:20 this morning, police were called to a residence in the 600 block of South C for the report of man, later identified as Petterson, attacking people with a knife.
When they arrived, they confronted Petterson, who was holding a family member against the wall in an upstairs hallway.
Officers attempted to convince him to release the 18-year-old male victim, but Petterson refused to comply. A Taser was deployed on the suspect, allowing the victim to escape to safety.
Police later learned that prior to their arrival, Petterson allegedly had been involved in a physical and verbal altercation with two victims, the 18-year-old and a 44-year-old Arkansas City female.
Petterson was taken into custody, transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center for treatment of a self-inflicted stab wound in his leg and later transferred to the Cowley County jail, where he remained today.
