Four people were arrested on Monday as part of an Ark City Police investigation that involved a stolen vehicle and brief chase.

Nathaniel Scott Barber, 18, of rural Ark City, was arrested on suspicion of criminal use of a financial card, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, and felony theft of a motor vehicle.

He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $2,000. He remained in custody as of Thursday.

Three juveniles — a 15-year-old Arkansas City male, a 17-year-old Arkansas City male and a 16- year-old Kaw City, Oklahoma, male —were arrested on felony theft charges. Two of the juveniles also were arrested on suspicion of fleeing and eluding.

All three boys were transported to the custody of Cowley County Juvenile Intake. Because of their ages their names were not released by police.

Police on Sunday took a report of a red Chevrolet Cruze that had been stolen from an address in Ark City.

Inside the vehicle were two purses belonging to two 20-year-old female victims. The purses contained cash, credit cards and identification cards.

Officers on Monday located the stolen vehicle at B Street and Madison Avenue. A short pursuit ensued, until the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. They were apprehended later.

Police were able to determine the identities of the suspects and learned that they had tried to use one of the credit cards at Casey’s General Store, located at 601 S. Summit St. Further investigation allowed police to make the arrests in connection with the stolen vehicle.
