An Ark City man was arrested on Thursday after being accused of beating another man until he was unconscious.

32-year-old Christopher Charles Schovan was booked into the Cowley County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery-domestic violence, a felony. He posted bond of $10,000 and was released.

Officers were dispatched at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday to a report of possible disturbance in the 1200 block of North Summit. They found the victim lying unconscious in the driveway of a residence.

The victim had serious injuries to his head and face.

He was transported by the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Dept. to South Central Kansas Medical Center and eventually airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he currently is being treated for his injuries.

Witnesses present told police the victim had been involved with an unknown person, who later was identified as Schovan. They later reported that Schovan had left the scene just prior to officers’ arrival.

The investigation continued Thursday. Schovan was contacted, interviewed and taken into custody.
