Authorities uncovered what is believed to be a large-scale pot growing operation in Elk County.

According to the Elk County Sheriff, early Wednesday morning, several law enforcement agencies discovered over 4,000 marijuana plants growing a quarter mile west of K-99 highway on Turkey Rd., near Howard.

It was in a wooded field, along with several tents and other signs someone was living or camping in the area.

No one was arrested, however authorities do not believe the pot was naturally growing.

Several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept., assisted in the investigation.
