One person suffered serious injuries - and a rural Ark City teen was arrested for DUI - in an accident on U.S. 77 early Sunday morning.

Around 2:40 a.m., authorities were called to the intersection of U.S. 77 and 322nd Rd. where two vehicles had collided. Four people were transported to a hospital in Ark City, though most injuries were minor.

Andy William Mitchell, 19, was southbound on 77 in his 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup when he attempted to turn east on 322nd Rd. He failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a 2002 Honda Odyssey in the northbound lane, Cowley County Undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Samantha L. Golightley, 23, Winfield, was driving the Odyssey and had one passenger, Larry Golightley, 48, also of Winfield.

Austin Webber, 16, Newkirk, and Ryan Jarvis, 15, were passengers in the Mitchell vehicle.

All but Jarvis are said to have suffered minor injuries, Mueller said. Jarvis was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Mueller said Mitchell was not cooperative with authorities and was arrested under suspicion of drinking and driving.

He was booked into jail for DUI, interfering with law enforcement, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of pot and drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell posted $4,300 and was released later on Sunday.
