An area man is facing drug – and possibly theft – charges after being arrested late last week as part of an investigation into scrap metal theft in rural Cowley County.

Alan Wesley Lewman, 34, who is listed as being without a residence, was arrested and is facing drug charges that include possession of meth. His bond was set at $11,000 and he remained in jail Tuesday morning, according to local authorities.

Around 11:40 a.m. Friday, Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 32000 block of 41st Rd., southwest of Ark City, where a farmer reported someone was stealing scrap metal from a farm.

The suspect vehicle was a red pickup truck.

Ark City police officers spotted that truck a short time later and stopped Lewman, who was driving.

He was found to be in possession of drugs, according to reports of the incident. Lewman was arrested and details of the scrap metal theft will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney for consideration.
