Winfield man arrested after chase on Wed

A local man was arrested Wednesday night following a high-speed pursuit in east Winfield.

James F. Veale Jr., 33, was arrested around 8 p.m. just outside the city during a brief chase that sometimes reached 95 miles per hour, authorities said. He was in jail Thursday morning and being held on $5,300 bond.

The pursuit began in the 1300 block of E. Fourth when someone called police to report an erratic driver in the area.

An officer arrived and attempted to stop the driver, who refused to comply. The pursuit continued through the eastern portion of Winfield.

Veale was finally stopped on U.S. 160 east of town.

He is facing charges for DUI, felony flee and elude, possession of marijuana and numerous traffic violations.
