The city of Winfield has a new electric and water utility director.
James Ging replaces Bob Porter, who retired from the position effective Dec. 31, after about five years of service. Ging has worked for the city for 18 years and most recently served as deputy director under Porter.
City officials said the position of deputy will be eliminated in an effort to reorganize and save money.
Ging recently completed a degree in electrical engineering at Wichita State University. That, along with his experience in Winfield, made him an attractive candidate for the job, city officials said.
The position pays just under $85,000 per year.
