UPDATE: 7:30 a.m. Tuesday - Hours of searching Monday led Cowley County authorities to a suspect wanted in connection with an early morning shooting in El Dorado.

At approximately 3 p.m., the Wichita man - who has not been publicly identified by name - was arrested in a pasture about six miles east of Winfield. He was found lying down in an area north of the intersection of 253rd and 162nd Roads and surrendered without incident.

Much earlier in the day, two other people, a man and woman, were taken into custody for questioning in the case.

One of those people was taken into custody near Winfield Lake, the other near Atlanta.

All were sought in connection with a shooting around 3 a.m. in an El Dorado home that left a 19-year-old man critically wounded.

The suspect and the man and woman fled the home in a Lexus and were later involved in a pursuit that ended near Douglass when the Lexus sped away. Investigators made contact with the man and woman again when both called later to report being in separate accidents in Cowley County.

Authorities located the Lexus near Atlanta sometime after 10 a.m. and began the search for the suspect. Aerial support was brought into aid in the search.

The manhunt continued until about 1:30 p.m., when authorities received the report that a truck had been stolen and a suspect had sped away from a location not far from the search area.

A chase ensued and the man entered a field east of Winfield, where he fled on foot. Subsequent searching led to his eventual capture.

NOTE: Some information for this report was taken from Wichita media reports including those from KAKE and the Wichita Eagle.

UPDATE: 4:06 p.m. - Authorities confirm that a man was taken into custody around 3 p.m. in a field northeast of Winfield following a chase that began when a vehicle was stolen.

The suspect is the same person that investigators were looking for in connection with a shooting in Butler County. He was the subject of an earlier search near Atlanta this morning.

More information when it is available.

UPDATE: 2:40 p.m. - Authorities responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in northeast Cowley County this afternoon. The vehicle was pursued to a field.

A suspect left the vehicle and fled on foot. Local authorities are searching for that person at this time. So far, there has been no confirmation that the vehicle in the stolen vehicle case is connected to the search earlier this morning.

However, it is clear authorities think they may be related. As the suspect fled he threw a 22 rifle from the vehicle.

More as it is available.

Cowley County authorities this morning are searching for a subject possibly involved in a shooting in Butler County.

The subject is a light-skinned black male in his late 20s and approximately 6 feet tall and 130 to 150 pounds. He has short curly hair and an unknown tattoo on the left side of his neck.

The search area is in a location about one mile south and one mile west of Atlanta.

Investigators searching the area have found a car thought to be associated with the case. The man was last seen wearing a silver hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans.

He goes by the nickname sneak, sneak a peek or snake.

It is believed the man may be armed with a .22 caliber handgun.

Authorities ask that you call 911 if you see anyone matching this description.
