Winfield High School assistant principal and athletic director Randy Fox has resigned from his positions and will not return for the 2013-2014 school year.

He will fulfill the remainder of his contract which is set to expire at the end of June. His resignation was accepted by school board members on Monday.

Fox was originally hired as an assistant principal and athletic director.

In the last few years his focus was more on athletics because he added the duties of the middle school athletic director position, according to superintendent J.K. Campbell.

Campbell said he could not discuss details of Fox’s departure, since it is a personnel issue.

The board has also accepted the resignations of wrestling coach Andrew Brenn and boys basketball coach Troy Lallemand. Both men will continue as teachers with the district.

An attempt to contact Fox by email during the last week has not been successful. If we hear from him we’ll pass along any comments.

Dave Bertholf also has resigned as assistant middle school principal but will continue to teach.

Campbell acknowledged that a number of rumors had been circulating about an impending sports shake up at the high school. He denied reports that any one issue or complaints from parents led to the resignations.

“You will always have parents that have different issues and concerns,” he said. “That’s not uncommon.”

Campbell said the resignations offered a new opportunity to “recruit and hire” new staff for the athletic department.
