UPDATE: Dexter woman killed in accident

UPDATE: 6:50 p.m. - Brandie C. Owen, 36, of Dexter, has been identified as the woman killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident east of Winfield, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Owen was northbound on K-15 highway when she lost control of her 1998 Mazda and drifted into the east ditch. She overcorrected and rolled several times before the vehicle came to rest in the south ditch, according to a written report log.

The accident occurred just after noon on an area of the highway known more commonly as the Dexter Y.

Owen was not wearing a safety restraint.

Ethan Owen, 11, and Sydney Owen, 4, were passengers in the vehicle. Both were injured and taken to William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Ethan Owen was safely restrained. Sydney Owen had on a safety restraint but was not in a booster seat, according to the report.

Local authorities are currently at the scene of a fatality accident near Dexter. Others have been injured, according to radio reports from the scene.

The accident occurred near the Dexter Y on K-15 highway east of Winfield. One person is confirmed dead. A vehicle could be scene in the south ditch several yards off the highway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating.
