Fireworks could be to blame for a fire that engulfed an abandoned building in Ark City early this morning.
The blaze occurred just after midnight in a building in the 400 block of W. Madison that had not been occupied for many years, according to police.
Officers began canvassing the neighborhood and found that a witness had observed people shooting fireworks toward and around the structure just prior to the fire.
At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
As a reminder, the Ark City Police and Fire Departments urge citizens who choose to shoot off fireworks to make sure they are in a safe area, and to be considerate of neighboring properties to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.
