Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 2-year-old child Sunday night in Ark City, according to police chief Sean Wallace.
Around 7 p.m., emergency medical crews were called to Garden Walk Apartments, 619 W. Skyline, for the report of a child who was unresponsive. When they arrived the child, identified as Manton Kieffer, was not responding and neighbors were performing CPR.
The childís parents were not present at the time, according to police. Kieffer was said to be under the care of his motherís boyfriend at the time.
EMS took over treatment of the child and he was transported to the hospital in Ark City for treatment. Attempts to resuscitate him were not successful.
Police said the childís death is under thorough investigation and a search warrant was executed the evening of the childís death. An autopsy was performed at the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center Monday afternoon.
Results of the autopsy are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
