Investigation into reports of child abuse in Ark City led to the arrest of a local man Wednesday evening.

Authorities were called to the 1300 block of N. 12th around 9 p.m. to check on the welfare of children who were possibly being physically abused. Officers arrived and found four children said to have injuries consistent with abuse, according to a report from police.

The children's injuries were treated at South Central Kansas Medical Center and later released.

All four of the children were taken into police protective custody. Three children were placed by juvenile intake and one child was placed with their mother, who was not a suspect in the abuse.

The caregiver at the time was a Jeffrey G. Yatsko, 24, of Ark City.

The investigation led to his arrest for four counts of a abuse of a child. He was later sent to the Cowley County Jail on a $10,000 bond. The case will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
