A barn in Udall sustained heavy damage early Thursday morning when a lightning strike started the structure on fire.
Fire and emergency crews were called to the barn, in the 300 block of N. Blankenship, just after 6 a.m. It is being considered a total loss, fire officials said.
Udall, Rock, Winfield and Mulvane fire departments responded to the blaze.
Investigators think lightning from a storm caused the fire.
The horse barn, located along the northwest city limits of Udall, is at the residence of Steve Russell. He was able to safely move the horses from the barn as the structure became engulfed in flames.
Damage was estimated at $50,000.
