A Winfield man was arrested Thursday evening after he became distraught and is said to have pointed a rifle at two emergency response personnel from Atlanta.

Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the 7000 block of Main in the Wilmot area in response to a report of a man armed with a gun and intoxicated. He was standing in the street when authorities arrived.

The man, identified as 56-year-old Roger Y. McCammon, complied with officers’ orders that he put the rifle down and get to the ground. McCammon was evaluated by EMS and was then arrested on two counts of aggravated assault.

An investigation revealed he had pointed the gun at two emergency responders as they arrived on the scene.

He was booked into jail and had bond set at $6,000. McCammon was still in jail Friday morning.
