An Ark City woman died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a head-on collision Friday on Cowley 3 west of Winfield.

40-year-old Carrie D. Jones was transported to Wesley Medical Center and the hospital later informed authorities that she died early Saturday morning.

Jones was a passenger in a 1998 Nissan Maxima driven by 38-year-old Troy W. Vaden. 4-year-old Stetson L. Hushaw also was a passenger in that vehicle.

The Maxima is said to have crossed the center line of the roadway several times before crossing a final time and striking a 2008 HHR SUV head on. All those in the Maxima were injured.

Vaden and Jones were properly restrained, Hushaw was not, according to a report from the Cowley County Sheriff’s office. They have since been released from the hospital, according to a Wesley spokesperson.

The accident occurred around 6:25 p.m. just north of where Cowley 3 intersects 142nd Rd.

47-year-old Christopher Kimmell of Ark City was identified as the driver of the HHR. He and a passenger, 52-year-old Beth Hummingbird were also injured.

Hummingbird was listed in fair condition Monday at Wesley.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, Sheriff Don Read said.
