A Wichita man was arrested early Thursday when he is said to have kicked two deputies attempting to arrest him for driving under the influence.

The incident occurred just after midnight.

Cowley County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle for crossing the center line and driving in the ditch in the 11000 Block of 21st Road.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver failed to comply with directions to shut the vehicle off and exit it.

There was also the odor of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana coming from the vehicle. The suspect eventually became combative and while in the process of being handcuffed kicked two deputies.

He was transported to the Cowley County Jail where he had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle into a holding cell.

The driver, Ignacio Batres Jr., 27, Wichita was booked on alcohol and drug counts and could be charged for kicking officers.

He has since posted bond and been released.
