Local man strikes non-moving train Saturday

A local man was injured early Saturday morning when he struck a train that was stationary at a railroad crossing north of Winfield, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

47-year-old Kris A. Cooley was eastbound on 72nd Rd. and struck the train at a crossing about a tenth of a mile west of 75th Rd. The accident occurred around 1:40 a.m. and Cooley was driving a 1999 Ranger pickup truck.

Cooley was taken to the hospital in Winfield for treatment and his injuries were not believed to be life threatening, according to information available at the scene.

Cooley was wearing a seat belt, according to the report. The accident occurred about 9 miles north of Winfield.
