A fleeing Ark City burglary suspect is said to have dumped an industrial-size shop vacuum onto the roadway early Sunday morning as he attempted to elude police.
Juan Diego-Lopez Cruz was eventually arrested in connection with the incident and he is facing a slew of charges including burglary, theft, fleeing from police and DUI. He was booked into jail on $11,600 bond and remained incarcerated Sunday afternoon.
Just after midnight, an Ark City officer was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle pulling away from a vacant residence in the 200 block of North 8th St. When the driver pulled onto the roadway, he lost the vacuum from the trunk.
Cruz was said to also have a ladder sticking out of one of his windows.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued onward.
The chase continued to an area near the west dike system in Ark City, where Cruz struck a metal gate owned by the city of Ark City, damaging his vehicle. Cruz exited the vehicle and made an attempt to flee on foot, before being arrested.
When contact was made with Cruz it was discovered he had been consuming alcohol and was driving on a suspended driverís license.
Several additional stolen items were located inside his vehicle, and during the investigation, Cruz admitted he did not have permission to take the items from the vacant residence.
The property owner later confirmed this information.
