UPDATE: 4:30 p.m. Sunday - NewsCow has confirmed, through those that know him, that Sam Dimit, 22, Winfield was the person killed by the train near the fairgrounds early Saturday.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train early this morning in Winfield near the 14th Ave. entrance to the Walnut Valley Festival, local officials confirmed.
The accident happened around 4:05 a.m. near railroad tracks that intersect 14th just east of the Winfield Fairgrounds. Police were called to the scene and arrived to find someone deceased near the tracks.
That person's identity has not been made public, so far. Investigators spent several hours at the scene and will release more information as it becomes available.
The circumstances and events leading up to the accident were unclear, officials said.
Festival spokesperson Rex Flottman said he had little additional information, other than that a pedestrian had been killed in an accident.
