Creekstone Employees affected by a fire at the beef processing plant in Ark City Wednesday will receive their paychecks on time and efforts are being made to put all employees back to work as soon as possible, a company official said this afternoon.
A fire in a finishing and packaging area of the plant damaged machinery and the interior of the facility. Fire investigators are still working to determine an official cause.
Those scheduled to receive payment by direct deposit Friday will experience no change in that process. Anyone who normally picks up a regular check, can do so tomorrow at Quality Inn, 3232 N. Summit, in Ark City.
That hotel is just across from the North End convenience store. Creekstone is setting up in the banquet room of that facility to avoid traffic congestion at the plant. Employees should bring proper identification with them.
Checks will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.
As for returning to work, shipping and maintenance employees are to report to the plant on Friday. Other departments will return to work when production resumes. Creekstone officials hope that will be Monday, according to Doug Mackay, general counsel and human resources director for the company, however a final decision has yet to be made.
Creekstone operates a phone line for employees to call that was disabled for a time due to fire-related issues. That line is now working.
