UPDATE: 6 p.m. Monday - Ark City officials said Cindy Waugh has been placed on an administrative leave of absence pending an internal investigation by the City. Her salary is $19.13 per hour.
Also, multiple court and government officials have confirmed that, at this point, the allegations against Waugh pertain to her private life, not to anything that happened while she worked for the city.
Ark City police booked a local woman into jail Thursday in connection with an investigation into multiple financial-crime accusations.
Cynthia K. Waugh, 58, Ark City, was booked into the Cowley County Jail on more than twenty counts each of criminal use of a financial card and theft. She posted bond of $45,000 and was later released.
Waugh is a long-time employee of the Ark City Fire Dept.
In a brief interview Saturday evening, she told NewsCow and KSOK Radio it was important to her for people to know the accusations that led to her arrest had no connection to the job she does for the city.
Waugh said she was in the process of retaining the services of an attorney and looking forward to the day when the full facts of the case emerge. She had no further comment.
At this point, Waugh has been arrested, but has not made an initial court appearance.
Cowley County Attorney Chris Smith acknowledged he was aware of an ongoing investigation involving Waugh. He would not comment further on the case.
