Two Ark City men were arrested early Sunday after a routine traffic stop led to an investigation into drug-related crimes.

Around 1:45 a.m., Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies sought the assistance of the Winfield Police K-9 unit for a traffic stop in the 200 block of W. Ninth.

The dog located a package just outside the passenger door of the vehicle, at which time a brief foot chase ensued when the driver fled.

Officers eventually arrested 40-year-old Brenton Jett on drug charges, including intent to sell meth, and for interference with law enforcement. His bond was set at $15,000, he posted it and was later released from jail.

Chas R. Barnes, a 22-year-old man, was arrested on meth possession and drug paraphernalia charges. He posted $6,000 bond and was released from jail.
