For at least the fifth time this year, it appears Cowley County’s lakes and rivers have gobbled up a vehicle.
Around 6:45 a.m. Friday, sheriff deputies were flagged down northeast of Winfield by a pedestrian. He told authorities he had been at Winfield City Lake with some other people when their vehicle had rolled into the lake.
The car was partially submerged and the group of campers spent a wet, chilly night at the lake because there was no cell service there, police chief Danny Parker said. One member of the group eventually decided to walk home.
Officers gave the pedestrian a ride to a girlfriend’s house. Winfield Police were then contacted regarding the vehicle in the lake.
The vehicle was eventually removed the water.
