Ark City commissioners have approved the issuance of Industrial Revenue Bonds and a tax abatement expected to clear the way for construction of a Best Western Plus near the Ark City hospital.

The commission voted following a public hearing on the issues. Work on the 69-room hotel could begin by year’s end.

Bonds in an amount not to exceed $6.7 million will be issued to fund construction. The city is not liable for repayment of those bonds.

City officials hope to close on the sale of the property soon, so that work can begin.

Hospitality Management is the developer and management firm. It currently manages two properties in Blackwell, Okla. that employ about 52 people.

The Ark City facility would combine 63 nightly stay rooms with six extended stay rooms that include kitchenettes. It would employ about 30 people, according to a statement from the company.
