Wichita-based Conco Construction has been awarded the contract to remodel the Cowley County Courthouse South Annex in Winfield for use as a consolidated 911 Dispatch Center.
County commissioners Tuesday approved a bid from Conco for just under $2.4 million. The south annex - which occupies an old bank building bought years ago by the county - will house dispatching and the clerk and treasurer offices.
The bid also included a few optional items the commission agreed to add to the remodel phase of the project.
Voters approved a quarter-cent sales tax to fund the $3.5 million plan in April. Money not used for the remodel itself will fund equipment purchases.
The bid for remodeling the south annex is higher than first expected. County officials, though, think there are ways to save money in the equipment bidding process that should help the project stay on budget.
