A suspect was taken into custody today in connection with an investigation into an armed robbery at Casey’s General Store on W. Madison in Ark City last week.

Benjamin Lee Keeler, 27, Ark City, was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm, theft, possession of pot and driving with a revoked license.

His bond was set at $20,000.

Ark City Police received information Tuesday regarding the identity of a potential suspect in the case. Investigators then made contact with the individuals who provided the information and collected evidence to corroborate claims of Keeler’s involvement in the robbery.

Police learned Keeler’s vehicle matched the description of one given by witnesses in the area of Casey’s last Thursday, when the robbery occurred. Evidence in the vehicle provided further evidence Keeler was involved in the crime, police said.

Keeler was found at his place of employment in Winfield Tuesday and taken to the Winfield Police Dept. for an interview. During that interview, he denied any involvement in the crime and attempted to provide police with an alibi.

The investigation continued Wednesday and police were able to obtain positive identification of the suspect from witnesses who were at Casey’s when the crime was committed. An arrest was then made.
