Local police Monday announced the arrest and conviction of a man responsible for six bank robberies in Oklahoma and Kansas, including one in Winfield earlier this year.
50-year-old David Heath, of Wichita, was convicted and subsequently sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for the crimes. During a court hearing in November, he received his sentence and was ordered to pay restitution to the banks.
Heath was determined to be the man who robbed the CornerBank location at 1905 E. Ninth on Feb. 23 of this year. He entered the bank that morning, presented a note to the teller and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Winfield Police Chief Danny Parker said the quality of the video from CornerBank and observant individuals who recovered headwear worn by Heath, helped to solve the case.
DNA taken from that head wear was later matched to a DNA sample taken from Heath.
Local authorities worked with the KBI and FBI in investigating the case.
