A storage building at a home in rural Ark City was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon, according to local fire officials.

The small outbuilding at the residence in the 7000 block of 322nd Rd. housed lawn mowing and farm equipment. A passerby noticed the fire, but the building’s walls and ceiling were mostly gone by the time crews arrived at the scene.

All equipment inside the structure was destroyed and intense heat damaged paint and broke a windshield on a pickup truck nearby. An area of grass also burned.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just after 4:10 p.m.

The building and its contents belonged to Richard and Lesa Wesbrook. No one was at the home at the time and no injuries were reported.

An official cause of the blaze remains under investigation. No monetary amount has been assessed to the damage so far.

Fire crews were at the scene for more than two hours.
