A Winfield man is facing charges for escaping from the custody of law enforcement after failing to return from a work release assignment early Tuesday morning.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s office reports that 27-year-old Dustin D. Daniels did not show up at the county jail after his shift was completed. A report was filed around 1:50 a.m. when deputies were informed of his absence.

An escape from custody report was taken and Daniels will be charged once his whereabouts are determined.

He had been serving an aggregate sentence of one year for misdemeanor theft, misdemeanor criminal use of a financial card and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

He began serving that sentence on Dec. 9.
