Spencer Weikal is scheduled to return to a Wellington courtroom this week to be sentenced for murder in the death of two-year-old Larrissa Foster in December of 2011.

Sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in front of Sumner County Dist. Court Judge Scott McQuin.

This fall, Weikal, 25, was found guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a child and endangering a child. The conviction came as part of a plea agreement between Weikal and prosecutors.

He had been scheduled to go to trial last month.

The murder charge carries a sentence of 12 to 54 years in prison. Weikal is currently being held on $500,000 bond.

Foster was taken to the hospital in Nov. of 2011 after being injured while under Weikal’s care. She was eventually transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and died there a few days later.

Wesley officials almost immediately suspected child abuse and notified authorities. Weikal was arrested a short time later and has remained in custody ever since.
