Former Winfield Mayor Taggart Wall has announced he will leave his job with the city of Ark City to become city manager for Sterling, Kan.

Wall, 25, made the announcement on Tuesday and said his last day at his current position will be March 25. He works as an assistant to city manager Nick Hernandez.

In Sterling, a town of just under 3,000 people northwest of Hutchinson, Wall will replace Rod Willis. He expects to start there on April 1.

“I am at a young age to have a job like this,” he said. “But I think it’s a testament to the opportunities that I’ve been given here (in Cowley County.”

In 2009, Wall bested all comers to win a four-year term on the Winfield city commission. Two years later he became the youngest mayor in the history of the city.

He took a paid internship with the city of Ark City that eventually led to him serving in his current position. During that internship, he finished his one and only term as commissioner in Winfield in April of 2013.

Wall did not seek reelection. He’s worked in Ark City for about two years.

He is a graduate of Southwestern College and has a master’s degree in public administration from Wichita State University.
