Two children were hurt Friday evening in a three-vehicle accident that occurred on U.S. 77 highway just south of Ark City.

Around 7:30 p.m., 41-year-old Gary W. Van Wey was struck from behind while driving his 1995 Chevy Astro Van at the intersection of 77 and 312th Rd. Van Wey was southbound on the highway and had slowed down to make a left turn, when the accident occurred.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that 44-year-old John C. Stettnisch, Stillwater, was following too closely and struck the back of the van in his 2009 Chevy HHR.

Momentum from that collision caused the Van Wey Vehicle to crash into an Allis Chalmers tractor driven by Ken Bryant, 56, of Ark City. The Van Wey vehicle then rolled onto itís top.

All adults involved in the crash were uninjured. Van Wey and Stettnisch were wearing seat belts.

Six-year-old Kevin Van Wey and four-year-old Leann Van Wey were both hospitalized locally as a result of their injuries. Initial reports from the scene indicated their injuries were not life threatening.

Gary Van Wey rode with the children - who KHP said were both wearing seat belts - to the hospital.
