An Ark City woman remained in jail Monday following a motor-vehicle accident last week in which she is accused of crashing a stolen vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
Authorities were first called around 3 p.m. Thursday when someone called to report that 18-year-old Kaylin M. Nichols was at the reporting party’s front door. Nichols seemed confused and perhaps under the influence of drugs, according to a written report of the incident.
Cowley County Sheriff’s investigators arrived to find that Nichols had actually been involved in a minor accident near the residence, which is located in the 15000 block of 103rd Rd.. She had apparently gone to the door of the residence seeking help.
Nichols, according to the report, told officers at the scene she had been using meth. She was also found to be in violation of her probation on a previous conviction.
Nichols was taken to the hospital in Winfield for evaluation and was released the same day. She was booked into jail on the probation violation.
Following Nichols’ arrest, Winfield Police received a report that the vehicle Nichols’ was driving had been stolen.
Charges are pending in regard to theft of the vehicle and DUI. Nichols’ remains in jail for the probation violation.
