Multiple people were injured Friday in a two-vehicle collision that occurred just west of Winfield.
Around noon, 20-year-old Tyler Steel, of Jacksboro, Texas, was westbound on 33rd and collided with a passenger car traveling along Country Club Rd., according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. Steel was unfamiliar with the area and failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the stop sign.
Steel’s vehicle, a diesel pickup truck, rolled and Steel was ejected from it. He was hospitalized for his injuries. An update on his condition was not immediately available Monday.
14-year-old Deven Stewart, of Silverdale, was practicing driving with a learner’s permit. He was operating the car with his mother, 33-year-old Tabitha Welliver, of Derby, alongside.
Welliver was transported to a Wichita hospital via air ambulance, according to her family. She remained in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center Monday morning.
Stewart is recovering from his injuries, which were not life threatening.
Steel was not wearing a seatbelt, according to investigators.
