Anger over a chipped windshield Thursday led to the arrest of an Ark City man who is accused of causing a crash and threatening another driver with a claw hammer.
Around 2:25 p.m., Cowley County deputies were sent to the 28000 block of 292nd Road, in rural Ark City, for the report of a non-injury accident involving two vehicles. On the way to the scene, officers were told one of the drivers at the scene had become violent and combative, according to a report.
Further investigation led deputies to determine that 43-year-old Sammy Lee Crabtree had become upset because he believed the other vehicle, a truck, had passed him and chipped his windshield.
Crabtree is said to have pulled in front of the other vehicle, slammed on his brakes and caused the truck to hit Crabtree’s vehicle from behind.
That’s when Crabtree is reported to have gotten out of his vehicle and threatened the other driver with a hammer.
He was arrested and booked on two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.
Crabtree posted $13,000 bond was released from the county jail.
