Rural Cowley County’s Little Hooker Bait Shop & Cafe will close permanently this weekend after 27 years in operation.
The small cafe – located at 19449 112th Road, west of Burden – will close its doors for good Sunday. A sale of the restaurant’s equipment is set for Oct. 8.
Proceeds from that sale will go toward funding health care expenses for the cafe’s owner, Donna Kahrs. She is closing the restaurant due to health-related concerns, friends said.
Kahrs and her family announced the decision to close over the weekend on the Little Hooker’s Facebook page.
The tiny, modestly appointed cafe has become well-known locally as an out-of-the-way place to grab some grub and a fantastic piece of homemade pie in a variety of flavors. Over the years, the eatery also offered up bait, beer and cigarettes for those not wanting to make the trek to town for supplies.
The Hooker name came from the cafe’s origins as a bait shop.
Kahrs and her family will have a large sale of business and home items the Saturday after the closing of the cafe from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call (316) 644-6634.
