He was rushed to William Newton Hospital in Winfield where they stabilized him and then transported him to Wichita.

According to family, Max died shortly after surgery.

Max was a second grade student at Country View Elementary northeast of Winfield. He and his family were heavily involved in rodeo activities.

Country View’s staff, through the school’s Facebook page, posted that it will have professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents and school staff to help deal with the sudden loss.

The school said, “We are saddened by the loss to our school family and will make every effort to help you and your children as you need.”

A statement from the family posted publicly on Facebook asked that Max be remembered for the way he lived, and not the way he died.

Max is the son of Shane and Missi Henderson and has a younger brother, Murphy.
