Century-mark temps expected to last thru Wed

Searing temperatures – that pushed heat indexes to 110 degrees or more in Cowley County Monday – are expected to stay above the century mark for at least a couple more days.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Tuesday afternoon when forecasts call for temperatures to reach 106 degrees. A temperature of 103 is expected for Wednesday before a storm front arrives that should put temperatures in the mid 90s.

Heat advisories are put into effect when temperatures and humidity are expected to put the heat index in the 105 to 110 range. At those times residents are advised to reduced strenuous outdoor activity and take in plenty of fluids.

Heat warnings are issued when temperatures climb higher and risk of heat related illness becomes more imminent. Residents are advised to stay inside an air conditioned room and check on neighbors and relatives.
