Group effort behind news and info site

A pair of Cowley County news veterans has launched an online-only news site with content provided free of charge to readers.

Former Winfield Courier managing editor Shane Farley and former Courier reporter Dakotah M. Davis are co-founders of the site www.NewsCow.net. The name is short for News Cowley.

The site went live this week and at the moment offers news, police reports and commentary. Obituary and people sections are being developed. NewsCow is partnering with KSOK to provide news stories for broadcast on the air.

“During the last few years the local news market has been lacking in competition,” Farley said. “This is an opportunity for us to reintroduce competition and do what it is we’ve always done best ? find the stories readers care about and deliver them.”

News on the site will be updated regularly and readers are encouraged to check back frequently.

Long-time local journalist and editor Judy Welch has agreed to join the NewsCow staff as a writer and regular contributor. She will cover the county beat. Welch has worked for both the Courier and the Traveler.

Winfield’s Brian Bird has been responsible for designing the Web site and will help with its maintenance.
