Rural Cowley homes hit by burglars

Burglars struck three rural residences in Arkansas City and Dexter over the weekend, according to reports from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

Rural Arkansas City resident Ted Flauding, 13490 U.S. 166, told officers Saturday his home had been burgled and $845 in jewelry and guns were missing, according to one report. Flauding said someone entered his home by throwing a rock through the back door window and reaching in to unlock the door.

Items stolen included a Smith & Wesson revolver, a jewelry box containing jewelry and a deluxe gun cleaning kit in a wooden case. The handgun case was left behind, the report said.

The missing jewelry includes a silver necklace with a sapphire stone, a pair of silver sapphire earrings, a silver wedding band, a yellow gold class ring with a purple stone that has the gold engraved with the initials “KLK” and “Class of 1976” and a black ID bracelet with “Ted Jerry Flauding” engraved on the back attached to a yellow gold chain.

The robbery occurred between 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. while the household was empty, the report said.

Also in rural Arkansas City Saturday someone entered an outbuilding located at 16387 61st Road belonging to David J. Bellew and removed a solid brass table top valued at $60, according to a second report. Officers were able to photograph a footprint and vehicle tracks at the scene.

A third report indicates Elsie Buelah Crow, 22096 251st Road, is missing a ukulele and two banks stolen from her home Friday. One of the banks is valued at approximately $1,000, Crow told officers. Crow also named a suspect.
