Cowley Sheriff’s Dept. for April 16-23

Cowley County Sheriff’s Department activity for April 16-23 included:

  • Non-injury accident: Clay W. Cantrell, Winfield, was involved April 16 when a rock fell from a semi load and struck his vehicle while traveling on U.S. 166, 1.5 miles east of 181st Road. Damages were estimated at over $1,000.
  • Non-injury accident: Shaylee M. Rice, Arkansas City, struck a deer with her vehicle on 101st Road, .6 miles north of 282nd Road, April 20. Damages were estimated at over $1,000.
  • Animal call: Officers responded to the scene of a deer accident at 19000 19th Road and put down an injured deer April 20.
  • Motorist assist: An officer assisted a motorist whose vehicle had overheated in the 13000 block of U.S. 160 April 20.
  • Suspicious behavior: An officer responded to Crossroads Church located at 202nd and 85th Roads for a report of a break-in April 20. The officer could hear footsteps coming from the roof of the building but the suspects ran from the building and were unseen by the officer. The suspects had been spotted in a white Jeep earlier in the evening. Contact was made with the driver of a white Jeep who said she had picked up her brother and some friends. An open door was found at the church. The church was searched, cleared and secured. No damage was found.
  • Animal call: Two horses were reported out on K-15, one mile north of U.S. 66 April 21. The owner, Vicki Metzinger, 22911 K-15, Dexter, was contacted by an officer and the horses were put back in their fence.
  • Hit and run: The State of Kansas was the victim of a hit and run accident April 21 when a gas meter at 9577 85th Court in Arkansas City was run over. A gray blazer reportedly ran over the meter but left the scene. The meter was repaired by a KG&E worker who estimated the damage at $800.
  • Agency assist: Deputies assisted the Winfield Police Department at the Winfield City Lake for a report of a large underage drinking party April 21. Seven minors were cited for minor in consumption and one individual was cited for giving alcohol to minors.
  • Non-injury accident: Rex W. Clutter, Udall, struck a cow with his vehicle on 11th Road, .8 miles south of 62nd Road, April 21. Damages were estimated at over $1,000.
  • Aggravated battery: Officers responded to a report of an aggravated battery incident April 22 at 7022 316th Court, No. 10, in Arkansas City involving two sisters, Sherrie Cullum and Desiree Lolar. Officers were told Lolar had allegedly struck Cullum with her fists and a frying pan. Officers entered the residence with Cullum’s permission.
  • Auto theft: John W. Brazle was teh victim of auto theft at the livestock auction barns located at 7168 U.S. 160 west of Winfield April 22. Brazel’s 1978 Ford pickup was taken from the auction and later located in a creek on 31st Road.
  • Animal call: An officer responded to a report of a wild pack of large dogs in the middle of the roadway on U.S. 77 near Strother Field April 22. No animals were found.
  • Injury accident: Isaac R. Hutchinson, Arkansas City, was injured in a rollover accident on Avacado Road April 22. He was taken to an Arkansas City hospital for treatment. Hutchinson was taken into the custody of Ark City police for making a false report. He was charged with leaving the scene, failure to report an accident and no proof of insurance.
  • Injury accident: Raymond C. Metcalf, Andover, was injured when he lost control of his vehicle and rolled into a ditch on K-15, .1 mile south of 312th Road, April 22. Metcalf was taken to an Ark City hospital for treatment. Damages were estimated at over $1,000.
  • Non-injury accident: Adam J. Foster, Arkansas City, struck a deer with his vehicle on U.S. 166, .3 miles west of Country Club Road, April 22. Damages were estimated at over $1,000.
  • Injury accident: Chandra M. Ferguson, Wichita, swerved her vehicle to miss a deer and went off 21st Road, .6 miles north of 132nd Road, April 23.
  • Animal call: A red-colored cow was reported out on Cowley 1 April 23. No cow was located.
  • Reckless driver complaint: A reckless driver was reported in Atlanta April 23 and the vehicle was identified as a late 1980s model extended cab Ford Ranger pickup. The truck was not located.
