Ark City cosmic bowling event to help BBBS

An evening of cosmic bowling will raise funds to support the efforts of Big Brother Big Sisters of Cowley County.

The first Cosmic Bowl for Kids’ Sake event is slated for 7 p.m. July 24 at the Hillcrest Lanes in Arkansas City. Bowl for Kids’ Sake raises money to support mentoring programs aimed at keeping kids off drugs, in school and away from violence.

Officials with the organization say need for the program within the county is significant.

“The needs in Arkansas City are unprecedented,” Debi Clark, affiliate director, said. “We currently have more than 100 children waiting to be matched in Ark City, more than half of them boys.”

There are about 60 children waiting for matches in Winfield.

All money raised from community bowling events is used to benefit children within the county.

Anyone who bowls will receive free pizza and drinks. Each participant that raises a minimum of $135 in pledges receives a free t-shirt. Bowlers that raise pledges over $300 will be entered in a prize drawing. The grand prize is two round-trip ticket from Southwest Airlines.
