County fills open spots on township boards

Cowley County commissioners filled two vacancies on township boards recently.

A vacancy was created on the Sheridan Township board with the death of Orville Bair. His wife will fill the position through Jan. 12, 2009.

No one filed in the last general election for the clerk’s position on the Liberty Township board. Mary Kadau was appointed last week to hold the seat until Jan. 10, 2011, according to Cowley County Clerk Karen Brooks.

There are 25 townships in Cowley County. Board members are elected and have general authority over all township roads, and the amount of taxes to levy to maintain the roads. Meetings are open to the public.
