Southwestern adds three to library staff

Veronica McAsey is the new director of Memorial Library at Southwestern College.

Former director Beth Sheppard is now the library director at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.

McAsey grew up on a Kansas farm just outside of Holton.? She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Emporia State University and holds dual master’s degrees in library science and English from ESU. She joins the staff after spending three years as the reference/electronic services librarian at Briar Cliff University in Iowa.

“It’s fun to be back in Kansas,” McAsey says.? “This is definitely a step up in my career as a director and supervisor.? I want to make Memorial Library a gathering place for students, faculty, and the community.”

Joining McAsey’s staff will be Alex Thomas and Robert Perret.

Thomas is the online services librarian while Perret is the circulation and reference librarian.

Perret is joining Southwestern from the University of Wyoming where he has served as a scanning aide in the American Heritage Center Archives.? Perret holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado and a master of library science from the University of Denver.

Thomas is a 1998 graduate of Southwestern College.? He has a degree in mass communications and business leadership.? Along with his duties at SC, Thomas owns his own digital media company which specializes in Web design, graphic design, and custom programming.
