County man suffers burns from flash fire Sun.

A Cowley County man suffered burns to his face after gasoline put on a smoldering fire ignited and created a brief flash fire Sunday morning, a Udall fire official said Tuesday.

Emergency response officials, citing federal patient privacy laws, would not release the name of the victim. He was treated at the scene and transported to a Wichita hospital for further care.

“He suffered flash burns to his face,” Udall fire chief Randy Hoffman said. “Any time there are burns to the face, we take extra precaution.”

Hoffman said the man’s injuries were not considered critical or life threatening.

The property where the incident occurred was on 21st Road about three and a half miles south of Udall. Gasoline, applied to a fire that appeared to be out, caused the blaze.

There was little, if any, need for firefighting at the scene, Hoffman said.
