Arkanas City fire officials are investigating a fatal fire at an apartment used by students at Cowley College.
A spokesperson for the college said the school was notified that a student had perished in the early morning blaze but the body has yet to be identified. Emergency units responded to the scene at 3:05 a.m. this morning to find the two-story structure on fire, according to Lt. John Scott with the Ark City Fire Department.
The structure at 109 N. Fourth was a two-level building with no fire stop between levels, Scott said, which makes it more susceptible to fast burning fires.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office is on the scene this morning investigating the blaze.
