Winfield Chamber moving to new spot on 9th

The Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce has purchased Southwestern College’s downtown center and will move the chamber’s headquarters to the new building by the end of this month, chamber executive director Lonnie Boyd said.

“Southwestern is completely out and we’re ready to move in,” she said.

Officials with the chamber of commerce closed on the building Thursday and are making arrangements to relocate from current offices at 205 E. Ninth to the downtown center at 123 E. Ninth. The move ? which amounts to less than a block in total distance ? will begin the week after the Thanksgiving holiday, Boyd said.

Financial details of the sale were not made public.

Boyd said the Chamber has been considering relocation since 2001 because the current building is too small ? about 5,000 square feet, and has limited parking near it. The move also put the chamber in the same building with the Winfield Main Street program, which leased space from the college.

The new location offers 17,000 square feet and has a more modern feel, Boyd said. It’s also handicap accessible.

Chamber members will receive a letter notifying them of the move. Members can also request information about a feasibility study done to determine if the Chamber could afford to purchase its new building. The purchase was approved by the Chamber’s board of directors.

Local accounting firm Long & Neises CPAs closed on the purchase of the chamber’s current building earlier this month.
