Weekend wreck puts local woman in hospital

Drunk driving is being blamed for a traffic accident northeast of? Newkirk early Saturday morning that hospitalized an Arkansas City woman with serious head injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Shelly J. Bogart, 42, was in critical condition when transported by Medi-Flight to?Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Her?condition had been upgraded to serious Sunday afternoon.

Bogart was a passenger in a 1997 Pontiac Sunbird the Highway Patrol suspects was being driven by Jeffrey L. Snow, 46, also of Arkansas City. He was transported by Ponca City ambulance to the local hospital where he was treated for a head injury and then released.

A Highway Patrol spokeswoman said Snow was arrested for driving under the influence.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight Saturday morning about three miles northeast of Newkirk when the driver lost control on a gravel road, ran off the road and struck a concrete culvert guard end before coming to rest in a ditch.

Seat belts were not being used.
